Nancy Winzer is the Director of Parks and Recreation for the City of Port Huron and has well over 30 years in the field of recreation. She holds a Bachelor degree in Parks and Recreation Administration with a concentration in Therapeutic Recreation and Master’s degree in Public Administration with a concentration in Parks and Recreation, both from Central Michigan University.
Nancy began her career with recreation at the Blue Water YMCA in childcare and as a lifeguard before becoming the Physical Director. She then transitioned her career to the City of Port Huron Parks and Recreation Department as the Recreation Supervisor and Aquatic Supervisor. In 2010 she became the Recreation Director, and then the Parks and Recreation Director in 2012.
As Parks and Recreation Director, she oversees the recreation center, two pools, two beaches, the forestry and cemetery division, 24 City-owned parks, a 1200 seat theater and an ice rink. She has raised over three million dollars in grant and sponsorship funds and completed over 15 park projects throughout the City of Port Huron including a Kaboom Play-to-Build project in the summer of 2018. She has a passion for children and innovative programming that is creative enough to keep children active and outside.
In addition to her role and responsibilities with the City, Nancy serves on the board of the Blue Water Chamber of Commerce. She has received multiple awards including the Blue Water Woman Civic Leader of the Year, Community Foundation of South East Michigan Mariam Nolan Award for Non Profit Leadership, Michigan Municipal League runner-up for Most Innovative Program, MParks Innovative Park Design Award, and MParks Innovative Programming Award. Nancy has two daughters who enjoy recreation as much as her.
